Wellsford the Gateway to the North, is equi distant between Auckland and Whangarei on State Highway One. It is the hub of a varied and prosperous farming district with 3 farm merchandise centres, accountants, lawyers, dentist, a modern medical centre with birthing unit attached, fire and ambulance stations and a range of shops.
There is also a well-used community centre. Rodney College is fed from Wellsford Primary and many country schools. There is a plunket, daycare and kindy facility.
Centennial Park is the base for all netball in the area and has the rugby club rooms and fields. The Club hosts a Sevens rugby tournament for teams from all over the North.
The centralised soccer fields are just outside Wellsford, there are a golf course and bowling green plus many other sport and leisure clubs and activities catered for. Wellsford also boasts the largest stock-selling complex in Northland and the weekly stock sales are a popular destination for farmers and lifestylers alike.
The East Coast ocean beaches of Pakiri, Te Arai and Mangawhai and the Kaipara Harbour for fishing to the West are all within easy reach as is the newest ARC Farm park of Te Atiu.
The name WELLSFORD is made up from the first letter of the surnames of its first settlers. A unique visual feature of Wellsford is the sculptured metal animals commissioned from Rustic Twist - these appear on the southern approach to Wellsford, in the Township itself, and at the northern end of Wellsford.
